They understand it by doing: carrying a coffin, closing a grave, driving the hearse. In play a child can repeat what it cannot put into words, and stop as soon as it is enough. The child sets the pace, not the adult.<\/p>\n<p>That makes this material neither therapy nor a method with a fixed protocol. It is a tool. It gives a conversation something to hold on to, including for the adult who does not quite know how to begin. What matters stays the same: being honest, explaining at the child&#8217;s level, and staying close when it gets hard.<\/p>\n<p>Not every child acts it out, and that is fine. One child only watches; another picks it up weeks later.
